Client-Centered Therapy: Its Current Practice, Implications and Theory
Published in Paperback by Houghton Mifflin College (June, 1951)
Author: Carl Ransom Rogers
Average review score:

A monumental work defining the non-directive technique.
Rogers, the father of humanistic psychology, has created a technique for assisting others to understand and deal with their problems. The non-directive approach relies upon empathy, reflection and clarification to enable the client (patient) to exercise his responsibility for himself. Implicit in the method is the belief that only the client is able to choose a solution for his problems and, with the counselor's (therapist's) help, he will come to a point where he understands the exact nature of his problems enabling him to select solutions consistent with his own values.

Non-directive techniques lend themselves to all interpersonal situations where adjustment of behavior to the demands of the environment will lead to greater satisfaction. It can be of particular value in business when counseling employees who are not performing to standard, experiencing difficulties with co-workers, expressing dissatisfaction with their work, etc.

The book addresses also application of the approach in play therapy, group centered psychotherapy, group-centered leadership and administration, student-centered teaching, and the training of counselors and therapists. Finally, Rogersdevotes a section to discussion of the implications for psychological theory.

Anyone engaged in guiding others should read this book and its predecessor: "Counseling and Psychotherapy".

Dakota Destiny
Published in Paperback by Kensington Pub Corp (Mass Market) (February, 1993)
Author: Dana Ransom
Average review score:

One of the Best Books Ever Written
Third in a series of four books, Dakota Destiny is by far one of the best books ever written. For me it ranks right below Gone With the Wind. I have read this book on numerous occasions and find that I have trouble putting it down every time. To fully appreciate the value of this nove, one must read the others in the series also. However, I read this book first and was still completely enthralled. This book is definately not just another boringly predictable romance novels, nor is it just a book about sex although it does have its fair share of steamy pages. It is a wonderful story about family, love, and devotion all wrapped up in a sexy, suspensful, endearing novel with true to life characters.

Deliver the Ransom Alone
Published in Paperback by Christian Light Publications Inc (December, 1999)
Author: Verda J. Glick
Average review score:

Deliver the Ransom Alone
If ever a story demonstrates the power of prayer in a dramatic way, it is found in this book. The fast-paced narrative covers the kidnapping of a missionary in El Salvador, the negotiations and death threats that follow, and the ultimate payment of the ransom. Glick maintains a good balance between journalistic fact and emotional drama. Descriptive passages of the region are vivid, and the heart-felt prayers of those closest to the events soul touching. Seeing God's hands in miraculous ways makes this story both exciting and edifying. It is perfect for individual or family reading.

Fifteen at Last
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (November, 1987)
Authors: Candice F. Ranson and Candice F. Ransom
Average review score:

Kobie's at it again...
The last entry in Ransom's fantastic Kobie series. (Ransom was once quoted as saying her brain stops at 15 and that she is a grown-up by default.) Here Kobie suffers tonsilitis, embarrases herself in fromt of a cute teacher, has to deal with the likes of Sandy Robertson and an unlikely new crush. For the initiated, you know how good this series is. For the unititated, boy do I envy you for getting to read this for the first time.

Gynecology for the Primary Care Provider
Published in Hardcover by W B Saunders (15 January, 1997)
Authors: Scott Ransom, S. Gene, Jr McNeeley, W. B. Saunders, William Schmitt, and Gene McNeeley
Average review score:

The best book on Gynecology for the primary care provider
I use this book everyday in my practice. I am amazed how good this book actually is. I took a chance buying it from a mail order store without previewing it and was very pleased with its contents.

There is no fluff in this book, just facts, pearls, tables, graphs and advise on dealing with the day to day issues that primary care providers see in woman's health care. The book is easy to read and in fact reads extremely well. Even the font is pleasing. It is concise and the topics are very useful for day to day primary care disorders.

If you're a primary care doc or a student, PA, NP and you're looking for a very useful and succinct book on woman's health care you will not be disappointed with this book. Since this book is so easy to review, it will even be helpful for preparing for the boards. I highly recommend it.

How I Learned to Sell a Lot of Cars
Published in Paperback by Protea Pub (November, 2002)
Author: Mark E. Ransom
Average review score:

Great Book, Terrible Cover!
I have been selling cars for over two years now and have read several other books on selling cars, including books by Jack Bennet, Patrick Davis and Joe Girardi. I have also listened to many training videos and read many newsletters from various men like David Martin, Jim Ziegler and Joe Verde. So I have been exposed to a lot of advice. I am doing quite well selling cars but I know I could be doing better, which is why I keep reading advice and reevaluating what I do.

With this said, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of advice and the good insights given by Mark in his book (especially since the cover is awful!). This book is definitely worth reading if you have been selling awhile and are striving to improve. He does a good job of selling the reader on how and why certain things are necessary and effective. Is is a substantial book filled with details and examples, not some brief overview. And it is written by one of us, a man in the trenches, so to speak.
